Alexa Avilés is a lifelong Brooklynite, a mom, and a fierce organizer for fully funded public schools, housing for all, and workers’ rights.
She is running for City Council in District 38 to fight for working people.
Alexa is a proud Boricua, parent, community organizer and public education advocate. She grew up in East New York, Brooklyn and has lived in Sunset Park for nearly two decades.
As the next New York City Council Member for District 38 — representing Sunset Park, Red Hook, and parts of Borough Park, Dyker Heights, and Windsor Terrace — Alexa will fight for well-resourced schools; safe and equitable school reopenings; dignified, affordable housing; equity and justice for our immigrant neighbors; and a Green New Deal for New York.
Alexa will lead with passion, sensibility, pragmatism, and an unwavering commitment to District 38 residents.
Equitable Education
Every New Yorker deserves a quality education. Together, we will fight to fully fund our public schools, from PreK to CUNY, address the injustices of our education system, and build schools that serve our communities.
Universal, Safe, and Dignified Housing
Housing is a human right. But the city’s housing market is rigged, and only works for the rich. We need just housing policies that allow us — the people — to control our own land, rather than greedy developers.
A People’s Budget
Our city is facing an economic and health crisis, and an austerity budget that will slash critical services that working people like us depend on. We need someone who’s going to fight for the education, healthcare, and housing our communities need and deserve.
